Description

This woman Statue is perfect for the seaside, just like its folktale. Figure sculptures cast by Patina Bronze. It has a very moving and wonderful story. This woman is naked, her eyes fixed, walking on the beach, clutching a seal, and that’s where the story comes from. The legend of Kopakonan (seal Woman) is one of the most famous folk tales of the Faroe Islands. Seals are believed to be pre-humans who voluntarily sought death in the ocean. Once a year, on the thirteenth night, they are allowed to land, and the seals come in great numbers and swim ashore. They climbed onto the beach, took off their skins and laid them carefully on the rocks. Peel off their skin and they look like normal people. But when the sun begins to rise above the horizon, all the seals come to take their skins and return to the sea. Woman Statue shows the legendary image of Kopakonan, although the scent of her skin is still in the air.
